1983: High winds tore through Glenham and Wakpala, destroying several structures and damaging crops. The worst damage occurred in Glenham, in Walworth County, where two mobile homes were destroyed, the roof of a school torn off, and trees limbs down. A tall TV antenna was blown over and a boat was blown off a trailer. Highs winds also tore through the Bowdle area, downing power lines and tree limbs. Numerous roofs were also damaged.

1881: A Category 3 hurricane made landfall near Savannah, GA and is estimated to have killed about 700 people.

1893: A Category 3 (possibly Category 4) hurricane slammed into Savannah, GA with a 16 foot storm surge. It is estimated that one to two thousand people were killed.

1964: Miami took a direct hit from Hurricane Cleo. Winds gusted to 135 mph, while the hurricane caused $125 million in damage. Hurricane Hunter flights through the storm were so turbulent that one airman was injured to the point that he was unable to fly again. It was the first direct hit on Miami in 14 years.

1971: Tropical Storm Doria swept directly over New York City, flooding subways in the Big Apple.

1973: Canada's largest hailstone, 4.5" in diameter, fell on Cedoux, Saskatchewan.
