Old SD governor's mansion sale short of minimum

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A house that served 16 South Dakota governors couldn't draw even the minimum asking price at auction.
• The Rapid City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/13WStBJ ) bidding for the old mansion started at $600,000 Thursday in Rapid City. It fell to $375,000 before a man flashed the winning bid for $410,000.
• That's not much more than the cost to move it from Pierre 10 years ago.
• Sturgis auctioneer Dave Wilson says the price was below what Home Federal Bank of Sioux Falls wanted to sell it for, so the new owner had to negotiate a higher price, which wasn't disclosed.
• The man identified only as Bill confirmed after the auction that he was the highest bidder. He lives in Arizona but is originally from South Dakota and says he's thinking about moving back.

South Dakota scammers pose as court employees

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The state chief justice of the state Supreme Court and the attorney general are warning South Dakotans about a scam operating in the state.
• It involves callers identifying themselves as court employees seeking to collect payment in order for someone to avoid immediate legal action. The caller will ask for personal identifying information and credit card information. They use the threat of court action in order to persuade people to provide the information to avoid legal consequences.
• Chief Justice David Gilbertson and Attorney General Marty Jackley say the court system does not use phone solicitations to seek private information.
• Victims should contact the South Dakota Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-300-1986 or consumerhelp@state.sd.us.
