Pierre leaders to consider building events center

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- City commissioners in Pierre will be considering a proposal in the coming weeks to build an indoor sports facility and events center.
• A Public Facilities Task Force has endorsed the idea of a multimillion-dollar facility that could handle indoor sports as well as shows and meetings. The task force has representatives of city and county government, and the business, health and education sectors.
• Building a new facility has been talked about since the run-down City Auditorium closed more than two years ago. A consultant earlier this year recommended a 40,000-square-foot multipurpose building.
• A task force subcommittee is recommending the city hire Icon Architectural Group, which has developed similar facilities in North Dakota and Nebraska.

Valley City tops NSAA preseason football poll

• VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) -- Valley City State has been named the favorite to win the North Star Athletic Association football title in the NAIA league's inaugural season.
• The Vikings top the preseason coaches' poll, followed by Jamestown, Mayville State, Dakota State and Presentation.
• Those five schools are the only ones in the new Dakotas conference. Dickinson State becomes a member next year.
• Valley City State received votes in the NAIA preseason poll but did not crack the Top 25 nationally. The Vikings finished last season 7-3 and ranked No. 24 in the country.

Sturgis man claims $90,000 lottery prize

• STURGIS, S.D. (AP) -- A Sturgis man has claimed a $90,000 Hot Lotto prize.
• Charles Dirnbauer says he plans to pay off his motorcycle, pay some other bills and put the rest in savings.
• Dirnbauer's ticket matched all five white ball numbers but missed the Hot Ball in the Saturday drawing to win the game's $30,000 second prize. He also bought an
