C&MA Church softball team places second

•  For the second year in a row the Groton C&MA Church softball team made it to the Championship round in the Aberdeen Church League C Division Softball Tourney on Saturday, August 10th.  For the second year in a row Groton received the Second Place Trophy. For years before that the Aberdeen/Groton churches sponsored one 'alliance' team together, and three years ago won the C Division championship at the tourney.
•  Groton lost the first round game Saturday to First United Methodist Church (Aberdeen), then won three consecutive games against New Life Fellowship, North Highland UMC, and Aberdeen Alliance, to gain a berth in the championship game against the First United Methodist undefeated team.  Last year their championship opponent was their sister church Aberdeen Alliance, who had to beat Groton twice in the double-elimination tourney to gain the championship. This year Groton took the First United Methodist Church (Aberdeen) into extra innings in the final game before First United Methodist scored in the bottom of the first overtime inning to gain the championship 10-9.
•  Participating in the day long softball tournament were Adam Franken, coach, Seth & Trenton Duncan, Austin Fordham, Mick & Matt Knecht, Ashley Larson, Eric May, Krista & Shauna Tunby.  Mick Knecht pitched all five contests, and was the most consistent hitter for the Groton team throughout the day.
• The church league softball program is sponsored by the Aberdeen Game, Fish, and Parks and the C Division teams that participated in the tourney all enjoyed a physically exhausting, but fun-filled day at the South Softball complex in Aberdeen.
