Groton says farewell to a man of integrity

•  .A prayer service was held last night at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Groton, for Mayor Roy Olson. The church was full as several people sat in the back in the dining room area.
•  Several people got up and talked about their experiences with Roy. Anita Lowary said that when Roy became mayor, they shared the same office and got to know each other through the dealings with city business. "I'm very proud to have served with him and am very blessed to have known him," she said.
•   Clare Brotherton said, "From the beginning, he led with com

mitment, with integrity and with great vision. I had many good jobs in my career and I served with many good people, but I never served with a better man. This is the beneficiary of his vision and his commitment. And we are fortunate." In closing, Clare added, "I hope God has prepared to have his golden streets looked at pretty hard, because we all know that his work here was not finished."
• Arlis Doeden said she has learned so much from Roy Olson. "I learned patience and decision making. I learned to take my time and to think things through. To take smaller steps so that big decisions were hopefully be the right decision. Roy Olson taught me that."
