work to get curriculum to schools for history classes.
•  Commission member Shelley Stingley of Sioux Falls, who was chair of the centennial commission, suggested that some money donated for next year's celebration could be used to establish endowments or scholarships for students studying South Dakota history.
•  Rep. Bernie Hunhoff, D-Yankton, suggested that next year's celebration be used to renew reconciliation efforts between American Indians and non-Indians. The late Gov. George Mickelson declared 1990 as a year of reconciliation and later urged a longer effort at reconciliation.
•  Hunhoff said the commission should ask the public for ideas on continuing reconciliation efforts.
•  "That's something everybody could get excited about," Hunhoff said.
•  Officials said the 1989 centennial celebration used mail for communications and promotions. The 125th anniversary celebration will use the Internet, including Twitter and Facebook, to generate interest and announce events. The celebration's website is at www.125.sd.gov .
•  Next year's celebration will be funded by donations and licensing the commercial

use of the South Dakota 125th anniversary logo. The governor has said he does not expect to ask the 2014 Legislature for any funding for the anniversary.

Governor appoints Langer to SD House seat

•  PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he's appointing a Dell Rapids businesswoman to a vacant South Dakota House seat.
•  Kris Langer will fill a District 25 vacancy created by the resignation of Rep. Jon Hansen, who resigned effective Aug. 15 to attend the USD School of Law.
•  Langer is a real estate agent for LandMark Realty and Auction and has served four terms on the Dell Rapids City Council. She's also served on the Minnehaha Economic Development Association and the Dell Rapids Economic Development Board.
•  Daugaard says Langer is a leader in her community.
•  District 25 includes north and east Minnehaha County, including the cities of Dell Rapids, Baltic, Garretson, Colton, Lyons, Valley Springs and Rowena. It also includes an area of eastern Sioux Falls near South Sycamore Avenue.
