Early morning house fire in Sioux Falls kills 1

•  SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- An early morning house fire in Sioux Falls has killed a woman.
•  Authorities say the blaze in the one-story house was reported about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday. The woman who died was the only one inside. The victim was not immediately identified.
•  The cause of the fire was not immediately determined. Fire officials say the house was heavily damaged.

Tribe, SD Highway Patrol cooperate in pow-wow

•  FORT THOMPSON, S.D. (AP) -- The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe and the South Dakota Highway Patrol will join forces this weekend to enforce laws during the tribe's annual pow-wow.
•  Seven Highway Patrol troopers will assist tribal police during the pow-wow. Acting on a resolution passed by the tribal council, Crow Creek Chairman Brandon Sazue invited the Highway Patrol to help with law enforcement.
•  The council's resolution says the state troopers will have authority to enforce tribal law. Tribal and state officials will sign a memorandum of understanding Thursday for the operation.
•  Sazue says tribal officials asked for the Highway Patrol's assistance to enforce drug laws and protect public safety during the pow-wow, which also marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of Fort Thompson.
•  Highway Patrol Superintendent Craig Price says such cooperation improves public safety.

South Dakota organization adopting wild horses

•  LANTRY, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota organization plans to adopt out some of its wild horses this week in an effort to cut expenses because of high hay prices.
•  The International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros center in Lantry says it's difficult to find hay due to the drought, unless it's trucked in from hundreds of miles away.
•  Society president Karen Sussman says the center will reduce its four wild horse
