SD farm families to be recognized at State Fair

•  PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Families who have owned their farms or ranchers for 100 or 125 years will have the chance to be recognized during the South Dakota Fair on Aug. 29.
•  The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and the South Dakota Farm Bureau want to honor farm and ranch families who have continuously owned at least 80 acres for 100 or 125 years.
•  Century farms and ranches have been recognized at the State Fair in Huron since 1984, and more than 2,400 farms and ranches have been honored so far. Two years ago, the quasqui-centennial recognition was added for families who have farmed for 125 years.
•  Applications can be obtained online at the Farm Bureau's website at http://www.sdfbf.org/
•  Applications are due by Aug. 13.

Martin man sentenced on sex abuse charge

•  SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A 62-year-old Martin man has been sentenced to five years in prison for having a sex with a 15-year-old girl more than 50 times in Bennett County in 2010 and 2011.
•  U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says that Chief Judge Jeffrey Viken sentenced Edwin Johnson in federal court for sexual abuse of a minor. Johnson was indicted by a federal grand jury in November and pleaded guilty in April.
•  He was turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
•  The case was investigated by the Martin Police Department, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
