Presentation has a new mascot _ a St. Bernard pup

• ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) -- The Presentation College Saints have a new mascot -- a 10-week-old St. Bernard.
• Officials at the Aberdeen school have been talking about changing it for more than a year, College President Margaret Huber said in a statement.
• "It is an opportunity to create an image, a symbol, related to the Saints that wasn't a white robe with wings," she said.
• The logo of the private Catholic college is the letters "PC" on a shield, with a halo above and outstretched wings to the side.
• Administrators said the St. Bernard breed, which is known for being people-oriented, strong and friendly, will symbolize qualities of the college.
• Spokeswoman Cynthia Whitney told the American News that it also is a good time to establish a new tradition because the school this fall is moving from NCAA Division III to the NAIA, and the new North Star Athletic Association.
• "We know our students, faculty, staff and alumni will be energized by the presence of our yet-to-be-named 'saint,' and we hope the community will be as

well," she said.
• The college is holding a public contest to name the female dog, which will appear at athletic events, parades, student orientations and special events.
