FERPA Notification of Rights
The Family Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and eligible students certain rights with respect to the student's educational records including:
• 1) Inspection or review of the student's records within 45 days of request for access;
• 2) Request for amendments to student records that the parent may believe to be inaccurate or misleading, and;
• 3) The right to consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information contained on the student's educational records.  Except upon request, the District may disclose records without consent to officials of a school district in which a student intends to enroll.
• In accordance with federal law, military recruiters are entitled to receive the names, addresses, and telephone listings of juniors and seniors in public high schools.  A parent or secondary school student may "opt out" of allowing the school to provide information about the student to military recruiters.  The request must be in writing and kept on file in the student's permanent records.
• In accordance with SDCL 13-1-46, any public secondary school accredited by the South Dakota Department of Education shall permit active duty and reserve duty military recruiters or South Dakota National Guard military recruiters reasonable access to school facilities and students, at reasonable times and at reasonable places, for the purposes of providing information about military careers and benefits.
