Obama signs disaster declaration for 7 SD counties

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Seven South Dakota counties will receive federal money to help recover from a series of June storms.
• Gov. Dennis Daugaard says a presidential disaster declaration was signed Friday for Beadle, Codington, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Hughes and Kingsbury counties.
• Preliminary estimates showed more than $1.7 million in damages. Costs included debris removal and repairs to roads, bridges, culverts and electrical power lines.
• A disaster declaration authorizes the federal government to provide assistance for up to 75 percent of the eligible costs.

Tickets for USD-SDSU football sell out in 48 hours

• VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -- University of South Dakota officials say the school's ticket package that included admission to the South Dakota State game in Vermillion sold out within 48 hours.
• The game is scheduled Nov. 16 at the DakotaDome. The teams resumed their 123-year-old rivalry last year after a nine-year hiatus while the schools transitioned from NCAA Division II to Division I athletics.
• The Jackrabbits won last year's game 31-8.
• Fans can still get tickets to the SDSU game by buying season tickets, which start at $125, or becoming members of the school booster club, which requires a minimum $100 donation.

Saturation patrols will fight DUI during rally

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The Pennington County Sheriff's Office plans to conduct saturation patrols until Aug. 10 to crack down on drunken driving during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally that starts Monday in western South Dakota.
• Deputies will be looking for drunken drivers and drivers who are not wearing seatbelts as part of an effort to reduce traffic accidents and injuries. The sheriff's office says anyone who plans to go out drinking should have a designated driver or plan to call a cab.
