• In the eighth inning Drew Planteen would walk to first, steal second and come home on a single by Brandon Stanley to close the gap to 4-2 with Vermillion still on top.
• Groton was unable to score in the ninth inning or stop the Vermillion offense, as Mazour would score for Vermillion on a single by Colin Olson. The final score was Vermillion 5, Groton 2.
• With rain in the forecast and ominous black clouds over Bob Wiley Field in Webster, the second game was moved up an hour, and started at 4 pm.
