Tribal health summit next month in Aberdeen

• ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) -- Tribal leaders and public health care professionals will gather in Aberdeen next month for the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen's Health Summit.
• This is the third year for the event. It will be held Aug. 6-7 in Aberdeen. The focus of the summit will be maternal and child health.
• Discussions about the federal health care law and how it will affect maternal and child health will also take place.
• The Great Plains Tribal Chairmen's Health Board is made up of 18 member tribes in South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska. It advocates for federal health services for the tribes.

Rainy, warm weather continues to boost SD crops

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Scattered rain and above-normal temperatures continued to boost crop development in South Dakota over the past week.
• The Agriculture Department says in its latest crop and weather report that there were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork on average. Topsoil moisture supplies are rated 4 percent very short, 21 percent short, 70 percent and 5 percent surplus.
• Spring wheat turning color was at 69 percent, behind 100 percent at this time last year.
• Pasture and range conditions are 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 59 percent good and 15 percent excellent

Estimated 125K people turn out for JazzFest

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Organizers of the Sioux Falls' JazzFest say an estimated 125,000 people attended the three-day festival this past weekend.
• Executive director Rob Joyce says officials are excited with the reception singer Sheryl Crow received on Saturday night.
