SD panel proposes changes in waterfowl seasons

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission has proposed some changes for this fall's duck and goose hunting seasons.
• Proposed changes for the duck season include increasing the daily limit for scaup from four to six, and increasing the possession limit for ducks, coots and mergansers from two times the daily limit to three times the daily limit.
• Proposed changes for the goose season include increasing the daily limit for Canada geese from three to five, and increasing the daily limit for white-fronted geese from one to two. The possession limit for geese also would be changed from two times the daily limit to three times the daily limit.
• The commission will finalize the waterfowl seasons at a meeting that will be held Aug. 1-2 in Watertown.

Viborg is SD's capital for a day

• VIBORG, S.D. (AP) -- The governor's latest choice to serve as South Dakota's honorary capital is Viborg.
• The southeastern South Dakota community on Monday will host a main street walk, tours around town, meetings and coffee hour with Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
• Daugaard says it's an excellent opportunity for me to get better acquainted with them and more informed about local issues and the future of the area.
• Residents are encouraged to attend a 1 p.m. roundtable meeting at the Viborg Community Center to discuss federal health care reform.
• The day concludes with a coffee and constituent hour held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in which residents can talk one-on-one with the governor.

BHSU rodeo team has new 4-legged teammate

• SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) -- The rodeo team at Black Hills State University has a new four-legged team member -- a horse named Leo.
• A Canadian couple recently donated the horse to the rodeo team during a visit to the Black Hills.
• Jim Johnston and Katie Kehrig, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, also donated $5,500 to the program. Of that, $5,000 will go toward rodeo scholarships and $500
