McCrory Gardens Annual Garden Party Aug. 2

• BROOKINGS, S.D. - McCrory Gardens will dedicate its new Waterfall Garden Aug. 2 as part of its annual Garden Party.
• Guided tours of the gardens will start at 1 p.m., departing each hour from the Education and Visitor Center. The dedication of the Waterfall Garden is set for 5:30 p.m., followed by an ice-cream social featuring South Dakota State University ice cream. Local jazz group, Murph and Friends, will perform.
• "We are so excited by the addition of our new waterfall at the Rock Garden, the new Terrace Gardens perennial beds and large containers around the Education and Visitor Center," said David Graper, Director of McCrory Gardens.
• The waterfall was made possible by the generosity of longtime supporters, Gene and JoAnne Goodale of Pekin, Ill. Gene is a 1957 engineering graduate; JoAnne is a 1959 nursing graduate.
• "Many of the new gardens were just planted last year, so they are just now beginning to fill in," said Graper. "The Prairie Garden that surrounds the 'Prairie Is My Garden' sculpture is now established too. The sculpture and garden welcomes visitors to the Education and Visitor Center."
• Last year's annual Garden Party was centered around the dedication of the $4.2 million Education and Visitor Center complex that was built almost exclusively through gifts from private donors.
• Visitors can visit the gift shop to purchase a McCrory Gardens-branded water bottles, T-shirts, note cards and maple syrup or a stylish hoodie. Those who are members of Friends of McCrory Gardens get a 20 percent discount on purchases
