BHSU putting president's home up for sale

• SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) -- A historic home in Spearfish used as a residence for several Black Hills State University presidents is going up for sale.
• The university says the three-story home known as the Dickey House is being listed for $590,000.
• The 5,630-square-foot home is a Spanish Colonial Revival style and built in the early 1930s. It's located in downtown Spearfish. The 17-room home is listed on the National Historic Record.
• The BSHU Foundation Board of Directors says it decided to sell the home because it was not ideal for entertaining alumni and hosting community events. The board is considering plans to build a new residence for presidents adjacent to campus.
• People can walk through the Dickey House during two open houses this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

SD Demos plan ballot measure to boost minimum wage

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Democratic Party and some labor unions are seeking a statewide public vote on a measure that would raise the state's minimum wage.
• If the labor unions and Democratic Party collect at least 15,855 valid petition signatures before Nov. 4, next year's general election ballot would include a proposed law that would raise the state minimum wage from the current $7.25 an hour to $8.50 an hour beginning in January 2015.
• The measure also would raise the minimum wage each year to account for inflation.
• The South Dakota Legislature has consistently resisted efforts to boost the state minimum wage above the federal minimum wage, which is currently $7.25 an hour.
