Mines athletics director to join son's staff

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology says its athletics director is stepping down to join his son at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
• Dick Kaiser will become the head athletic grounds supervisor and director of the intercollegiate golf program at the school in Alva, Okla., effective July 31. Kaiser's son, Ryan Kaiser, is an associate athletics director at Northwestern Oklahoma.
• Kaiser says he wasn't looking for a change, but he knew if the right opportunity came up he needed to look at it.
• Kaiser, who was hired in 2009, was the driving force behind the Hardrockers' four-year journey from NAIA to NCAA Division II status.
• President Heather Wilson thanked Kaiser for his dedication to the university and guiding the athletics department in the right direction.

Viborg next up for governor's Capital for a Day

• VIBORG, S.D. (AP) -- Viborg is the next South Dakota city set to step in for Pierre in the governor's Capital for a Day program.
• Activities in the southeastern South Dakota community on July 22 will include a main street walk, tours around town, meetings and coffee hour with Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
• Residents are encouraged to attend a 1 p.m. roundtable meeting at the Viborg Community Center to discuss federal health care reform.
• The day concludes with a coffee and constituent hour held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Residents can talk one-on-one with the governor.

New member named to board overseeing Sanford Lab

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed a new member to a board that owns and operates the Sanford Underground Research Facility at the old Homestake Mine in Lead.
• Ron Wheeler of Deadwood has been named to the Board of Directors of the South Dakota Science and Technology Authority.
• Wheeler recently stepped down as the Authority's executive director. He was in
