Bath has shortage of water for firefighting

• Water, or the lack of, in the Bath area has caused some concern with the Groton Fire Board following the July 4th structure fires. The housing development is full of close packed homes that doesn't have a water source for fire fighting.

fire departments had to truck water in from Butler/Cat and RDO equipment dealers. It was later learned that South Dakota Wheatgrowers have a large tank near the east plant that can be drawn from as well. The problem with the Wheatgrowers tank is that the fire department hoses don't match up. Fire Chief Dion Bahr was given permission to do some research on developing an adapter that would allow the fire hoses to match up with other types of tanks, such as the one at Wheatgrowers.
• Over all Bahr was happy with the way firefighters responded to the fire.
• "It's a tough situation when a fire happens on a holiday," Bahr said. "People are out of town, the temperatures were high and we were slightly short handed, but we had people on scene in minutes of the call."
• Now that all the Bath Station truck have been brought up to standards, it's time to look at the building its self. Bahr proposed getting bids to look at the wiring in the building and at moving the light switches closer to the doors. There was also talk of installing a security light in the building. Bahr would also like to have the 'quick fill'
