densome that the male insect's offspring simply won't survive unless he steps in. I have come home from work or travel on several occasions to find just this situation in our home (it usually involves a mess created with scissors, hammers, or markers).  In the insect world, sometimes being a mom would reduce one's ability to find food, or mean your death as predators come searching for distracted moms.
• In one of these Daddy long leg species, the male creates a nest and tends the eggs by protecting them from cannibalism and cleaning them of fungal pathogens. The sexual roles in this species are reversed, and females search and fight amongst themselves for the chance to mate with Mr. Mom.
