Man sentenced in cold-case Anchorage homicide

• ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- A 31-year-old South Dakota man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in connection with a cold-case homicide in Anchorage.
• Alaska state prosecutors say Derrick Torian of Spearfish, S.D., was sentenced Friday on his conviction for manslaughter in the death of 28-year-old Genevieve Tetpon in 2000.
• Tetpon's body was found near Arctic Valley Road. Authorities say Tetpon had been stabbed 30 times. Her body was wrapped in a sleeping bag.
• Prosecutors say the case went cold. Then it was reopened in 2009.
• Torian was linked to the death through DNA. Prosecutors say Torian had lived in Anchorage at the time of Tetpon's death.

Physician says she'll enter US Senate race

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Sioux Falls physician says she'll enter the U.S. Senate race in South Dakota.
• Annette Bosworth, a Republican, says in a news release that she'll announce her future intentions Tuesday at noon on her parents' farmstead in Plankinton.
• In an interview last month with the Daily Republic of Mitchell, Bosworth credited her political dreams to the late former Gov. Bill Janklow. She told the newspaper that the government has grown too large and inefficient and she would like to help lead a change.

Rock academy's studio dedicated to Alice Cooper

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota's Brennan Rock & Roll Academy has dedicated its recording studio to Hall of Famer Alice Cooper, and the longtime rocker dropped by Sioux Falls for Friday's festivities.
• Cooper appeared at the center for Boys & Girls Clubs members during a day off between Thursday night's gig in Merrillville, Ind. and Saturday evening's show in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
• Students at the 6,000-square-foot academy get to learn to sing or play guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. They'll also have full access to rehearsal rooms, a performance area and the "Welcome To My Nightmare" studio, where they'll be able to learn how to work a sound board.
