Today in Weather History

1998: Flash flooding occurred from Keldron and areas south, during the late afternoon and evening as result of up seven inches of rain that had fallen from slow moving thunderstorms. Willow creek and several small tributaries went out of their banks causing the inundation of low areas and county roads. Many county roads were damaged with one farmer losing several pigs and cows as a result of the flooding.

1913: Death Valley, CA recorded the world's hottest temperature: 134 degrees.

1968: An F4 tornado struck Pforzheim, in Germany's Black Forest. It killed two people and injured 200.

1977: Athens, Greece sweated with the hottest temperature ever recorded in Europe: 118 degrees.

1979: Hurricane Bob became the first Atlantic Hurricane to be given a male name. It brought up to 7" of rain to Alabama, and 5" to Indiana as the remnants moved across southern parts of that state.
