Bath fire destroys two homes

• July 4th turned into a tragedy for two families in the Bath area. Fire destroyed two homes and a garage on Thursday evening on Country Drive, behind Bath Corner.
• The fire appears to have started in the garage of one home, spread to the house and then to a neighboring home. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but a fire marshal will be investigating today. The fire was reported by a passing moterist.
• Fire crews stayed late Thursday night watching for hot spots. Responding to the fire was Groton Fire and Rescue, Bath Station, Columbia Fire Department, Aberdeen Rural and Aberdeen Fire and Rescue. Scott Meints of Brown County Emergency Manangement was also on the scene.
• The American Red Cross was on hand to assist both families. No injuries were reported, however, some firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.
