SD Democrats' chairman Nesselhuf resigning

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The chairman of the South Dakota Democratic Party says he's resigning to move closer to his wife in Sioux City, Iowa.
• Ben Nesselhuf says he has accepted a job as campaign manager for Jim Mowrer, who is running for Congress against Republican Rep. Steve King. He says the job allows him to be closer to his wife, Angie, in Sioux City.
• Vice-chairwoman Deb Knecht of Houghton will take over as the party's interim chairwoman and deputy executive director Zach Crago will become executive director.
• Knecht says Nesselhuf has built a statewide network of committed volunteers and she's excited to expand on his efforts to grow a coalition of women, family farmers and young people.
• Nesselhuf says the party is in strong shape to win elections.

SD has first human West Nile virus case of 2013

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota has its first human case of West Nile virus this year.
• The state Health Department says the virus was detected in a Buffalo County child between 10 and 19 years old.
• State Epidemiologist Lon Kightlinger is urging residents to protect themselves against the mosquitoes that transmit the virus, especially with the Fourth of July holiday this week.
• South Dakota since 2002 has had more than 2,000 reported cases of West Nile virus, including 29 deaths.
