limits training groups. "I prefer to train one on one or two, but I will see what works best. I don't have a lot of room to train many people at one time."
• Recently, Howard took part in a Jiu Jitsu tournament in the Twin Cities. Jiu Jitsu is a marshal arts program that is a lot like wrestling, but in Jiu Jitsu, you get your opponent to submit instead of pinning them. "When I first started learning it, I used it as a self-defense technique for the streets," Howard said. "It doesn't happen a lot around here, but it's nice to know. Then I got into the sporting aspect of it and won my first tournament which I think is kind of cool. I won two matches in the heavy weight class and got a medal."
• Howard's experience in Jiu Jitsu helps in his training and teaching process. "I have something to train for which also adds to me training other people because they know I'm in the game, too" On of his friends will be opening up a gym in Aberdeen for self defense.
• Howard can be reached at 605-216-6987, at howiestrainingstudio@gamail.com, or by Howie's Training Studio on Facebook. "I'm hoping to build the membership by having a presence at the studio," he said. "The management that has been here since it opened has been great. I'm looking to make it a full time venture."
