Legion goes 3-0 at Brookings Tourney

• Groton Post #39 went 3-0 over the weekend at the Brookings Tournament. The Sunday games were rained out.
• Groton defeated Volga in the first game, 10-3. Groton scored 10 runs on 13 hits and had two errors. Volga scored three runs on seven hits and had no errors. Drew Planteen had three singles and a double, Brandon Stanley had two singles and a double, Mason Madsen had a single and a double, Parker Rossow had  two hits, Matt Thorson had a three RBI home run and Dalton Locke had a single. Thorson pitched for six and two-thirds innings, throwing 122 pitches for six strike-outs, six walks and seven hits. Stanley pitched for one-third inning with two walks. Kasey Kurtz was the catcher.
• Groton then defeated Speafrish, 6-5. Spearfish scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and left the bases loaded as Groton won by one run. Groton scored six runs on seven hits and had no errors. Spearfish scored five runs on six hits and had two errors.  Drew Planteen had a triple and two singles, Dalton Locke had a double, Mason Madsen had two hits and Spencer Knecht had one. Dave Campbell was the winning pitcher with four strike-outs, six walks and six hits. Kurtz was the catcher.
• Groton won the third game, 5-2, over West Central. Groton scored five runs on four hits and had one error. West Central scored two runs on six hits and had one error. Jamie Jorgensen was the winning pitcher, throwing 97 pitches in seven innings with three strike-outs, one walk and six hits. Thorson was the catcher. Jorgensen had a double while Thorson, Spencer Knecht and Dylan Krueger each had a hit.
