• The Guardianship Program is providing lifetime personal and financial protection to adults with disabilities.  For most of us, making our own decisions is taken for granted...voting, marriage, where to live, and spending money are all part of daily life and within our control.  For some persons with disabilities, assistance with medical, legal and financial decisions is necessary for the person's protection and welfare.  The Guardianship Program provides services to people without family members available or able to provide assistance.
• Vickie Walter, Olive Grove Golf Course manager, said, "If you think about it, it's really a good program. For $30, you can golf at a reduced price all over the state. What a lot of people do is go out in four-some, so they get the gold package for $100. It's a deal for those who travel around the state and like to golf a lot."
• With the pass, you get nine holes of golf for free with a cart rental at Olive Grove. "We do have some that come through here with their cards," she said.
• According to Ron Staebell, Guardianship Program board of directors, "The Gold Pak is an excellent way for businesses to provide tax-deductible employee or customer appreciation devices."
In 2012, over $10,000 was raised through the "Golf for Guardianship" golf card. Some golf courses offer 50 percent off an 18-hole round. There may be restrictions at various golf courses.
• Cards can be purchased at www.sdguardians.com or by calling 605/224-9647.
