Viborg to be next month's Capital for a Day

• VIBORG, S.D. (AP) -- Pierre will play second fiddle to Viborg next month as part of South Dakota's ongoing Capital for a Day promotion.
• Gov. Dennis Daugaard and other state officials are planning roundtable meetings with the town's business and community leaders on July 22. There will also be a coffee and constituent outreach.
• Mayor Kyle Christiansen says he looks forward to showing the governor all that Viborg has to offer.
• "I look forward to the Viborg event, and thank community leaders for offering to host it," Gov. Daugaard said.
• Daugaard says it's an excellent opportunity to get better acquainted with leaders and more informed about local issues and the town's future.

Jackley appointed VP of AG association

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has been appointed vice president of an organization representing the country's attorneys general.
• Jackley says he is honored to be selected as vice president of the National Association of Attorneys General. Attorneys generals from the 50 states, Washington D.C. and five territories make up the association.
• Jackley says serving in a leadership position in the association will help him identify issues directly affecting South Dakota.
• Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood has been selected to serve as the organization's president-elect.

Woman killed in as storms move across South Dakota

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A fast-moving line of storms barreled across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest Friday evening, killing a woman in her trailer on a South Dakota lake and leaving thousands of people without power.
