the skin surface and pull with slow, steady force until the tick is released. Twisting the tick using tweezers is not recommended since it may break the mouthparts and leave them embedded in the skin.

•  Tick repellents containing permethrin should only be used to treat clothing material and NOT used on one's skin. Please read and follow carefully the instructions listed on the product's label.

Groton escapes storms, so far. One day to go!

• Thursday evening, storms grew in intensity and skirted about 20 miles north of Groton. That storm left much rain with flash flooding in certain areas. The next round of storms came Friday afternoon with reports of tornadoes and baseball size hail. That storm line skirted south of Groton by about 40 miles. Groton did receive some high wind and took down a few small branches around town, but that was the extent of the damage. Groton proper received 0.17 of rain yesterday.
• The NWS Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a risk of severe thunderstorms on Saturday from northeastern Colorado and eastern Wyoming northeastward into Minnesota and Wisconsin. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats. There is also a risk of flash flooding across parts of South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.
