DSU to offer accounting degrees through Internet

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Board of Regents has authorized Dakota State University to offer two accounting degrees through the Internet.
• Beginning this fall, the university in Madison will offer its bachelor of business administration degree in accounting and its bachelor's degree in professional accountancy online.
• The regents also approved a plan for Black Hills State University in Spearfish to offer a certificate program in construction technology. The small set of courses will equip construction workers with new skills.
• Black Hills State also will start a new minor degree in arts management to prepare students to engage in the business side of the arts.
• The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City will offer new minors in chemistry and applied biological science.

Big Sioux Recreation Area hosts survival weekend

• BRANDON, S.D. (AP) -- The Big Sioux Recreation Area this weekend is teaching people how to survive without the comforts of home.
• The South Dakota Survival School Weekend programs include fire making, edible plants, shelter building and knot tying.
• The events run Friday evening through Sunday morning at the park near Brandon.

Kazakh leaders visit SD to learn about ag

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- Six leaders from Kazakhstan are visiting South Dakota to learn about agriculture diversification.
• The South Dakota World Affairs Council is hosting the leaders, who will be in South Dakota from Friday through June 29.
• The delegation will visit sustainable farming sites, ethanol and biofuel plants, a grain elevator and dairy operations, among other site visits.
• Delegates will stay in homestays in Brookings and take part in cultural and community activities.
• Nels Granholm is the current chair of the South Dakota World Affairs Council. He
