• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has appointed a panel to review the state's consumer protection laws.
• Jackley says the work group includes state lawmakers, officials from state and local government agencies, law enforcement officers, business owners and representatives of some business associations.
• The attorney general says the group will look specifically at strengthening laws on deceptive trade practices. He says South Dakota's consumer protection laws were passed in 1971 and some revisions have been made over the years.
• Jackley says the Consumer Protection Division in his office last year helped more than 20,000 consumers recover more than $11 million.
• The work group planned to hold its first meeting Thursday in Pierre.

Sen. Johnson accepting apps for internships

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson says he's accepting applications for fall internship positions in his Washington, Sioux Falls, Rapid City and Aberdeen offices.
• Johnson says the Washington internship program matches interns' interests to South Dakota and federal issues and provides an opportunity to attend hearings and research issues for projects.
• Internships in the state offices let students work with current issues affecting the state and provide the opportunity to work directly with South Dakotans.
• College sophomores, juniors, seniors and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Third of 4 services to honors Means is Thursday

• WIND CAVE, S.D. (AP) -- The third of four ceremonies to honor the life of former American Indian Movement activist Russell Means will be Thursday in the Black Hills.
• Means will be honored at 12 p.m. at Wind Cave.
• Means died in October at his home on the Pine Ridge reservation after battling cancer. He was 72. A onetime leader of the American Indian Movement, Means called national attention to the plight of impoverished tribes and often lamented the waning of their culture. Even after leaving AIM in the 1980s, he was still a cultural presence, appearing in several movies.
• Means' ashes were spread in the Black Hills last fall.
