1 dead, 3 injured in 2-vehicle crash near Tabor

• TABOR, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a Springfield woman was killed and two of her sons were seriously injured after her vehicle rear-ended a truck hauling a load of cattle near Tabor.
• The patrol says the crash occurred about 10 a.m. Friday on state Highway 50 west of Tabor. Authorities say 36-year-old Brenda Sue Pisano died at the scene. Authorities say her sons, ages 10 and 12, suffered serious injuries that were not life-threatening.
• The patrol says Pisano's van struck the rear of an eastbound tractor-trailer hauling a load of cattle as the truck attempted to make a left turn.
• The driver of the semitrailer sustained minor injuries. The patrol identified him as 51-year-old Gerard Cuka of Wagner.

SDSU names Fahrenwald as new Nursing dean

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota State University has announced that Nancy Fahrenwald will serve at dean of the College of Nursing.
• Fahrenwald currently is associate dean for research in the SDSU College of Nursing, a position she's held since 2009. She came to SDSU in 1995. Before that she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi, where she was AIDS coordinator for the Zomba district and a nurse educator at the Lilongwe School for Health Sciences.
• Fahrenwald succeeds Dean Roberta Olson, who led the college since 1994 and is retiring.
• The South Dakota Board of Regents must still approve Fahrenwald as dean.

Planning under way for trail to Mount Rushmore

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- State Parks and Recreation Director Doug Hofer says planning is under way to connect the Mickelson Trail to Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota's Black Hills.
• The South Dakota Legislature provided $500,000 to help pay for an environmental impact study for the proposed spur that would run from Hill City on the existing hiking and biking trail to Mount Rushmore. Hofer says the environmental study
