The person who bought the ticket also purchased a $1 option that doubled the prize. • The odds of winning $2 million playing Powerball are one in about 5.2 million. The winner has about six months to claim the money. • Powerball is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
