South Dakota State wins 2nd Summit sports title

• ELMHURST, Ill. (AP) -- South Dakota State has won its second Summit League Commissioner's Cup for its overall performance in men's and women's athletics.
• The Jackrabbits finished with a total of 94.5 points on the strength of first-place finishes in men's cross country, men's basketball and women's basketball. They finished in the top five in all but two of 18 sports.
• North Dakota State, last year's winners, took second with 87 points. South Dakota was third with 78.5 points, followed by Oakland at 77.5, Kansas City at 76.5, Western Illinois at 65.5, Omaha at 64, Fort Wayne at 59.5 and IUPUI at 58.
• The Jackrabbits were No. 1 in men's competitions. NDSU finished first in women's sports.

Sioux Falls man claims $6K Wild Card 2 prize

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A Sioux Falls man has claimed a $6,000 Wild Card 2 prize.
• South Dakota lottery officials say Charles Hanson matched five of five white ball numbers but missed the Wild Card to win the game's second prize. The odds of winning this are 1 in about 127,000.
• Wild Card 2 is played in Idaho, Montana and the Dakotas. The jackpot sits at $260,000 for the next drawing on Wednesday.

Moore named interim director of Indian education

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Department of Education on Tuesday named the former director of the federal Bureau of Indian Education as the interim director of Indian education for the state.
• Keith Moore of Sioux Falls was director of the BIE from 2010 to 2012. Prior to working there, Moore served as chief diversity officer at the University of South Dakota. From 2005 to 2009, he was South Dakota's director of Indian Education.
• "Keith understands the issues surrounding the education of our Native American youth," Melody Schopp, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Education, said in a statement. "His expertise will be especially critical as we seek to close the achievement gap for our Native students."
