Walk, picnic to honor man who drowned

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A memorial walk and picnic are being held this coming week at Falls Park in Sioux Falls to honor a man who drowned while trying to save a young boy.
• The Native American Council of Tribes is hosting the walk and picnic on Friday for 28-year-old Lyle Eagle Tail.
• Eagle Tail drowned in March after jumping into the Big Sioux River at Falls Park after 6-year-old Garrett Martin Wallace fell into the frothing water or became obscured by the gathering foam. The boy later emerged from the water and was not injured.
• The walk and picnic will start at 10 a.m.
• People can donate items for the picnic by calling Valerie Weddell at 605-214-9085.

Crazy Horse commemorates 65th anniversary

• CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL, S.D. (AP) -- Crazy Horse Memorial is commemorating the 65th anniversary of the dedication of the monument with several activities in June.
• Monday marks the 65th anniversary of the dedication of the Crazy Horse Memorial and the first mountain blast.
• It's also the 15th anniversary of the dedication of the finished carved face of Crazy Horse.
• A blast will take place on Tuesday at 3 p.m. to commemorate the anniversary.
• The summer's weekly performance and lecture series starts on Thursday and runs through Aug. 29.
• Two night blasts are scheduled for later in the month to commemorate the anniversary of the 1876 Battle of the Little Big Horn and Memorial CEO Ruth Ziolkowski's (jew-uhl-KUFF'-skee) birthday.
• The memorial is a mountain carving in progress that will honor Oglala Lakota warrior Crazy Horse.

School of Mines groups hosting golf tournament

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota School of Mines Hardrock Club and Foundation are hosting a tournament to raise academic scholarships.
