Janklow plaque to be dedicated at Fort Sisseton

• FORT SISSETON, S.D. (AP) -- A plaque honoring former Gov. Bill Janklow will be dedicated next month during the Fort Sisseton Historical Festival.
• Fort Sisseton Commissioner Paul Symens says Janklow's efforts to secure funding for early restoration efforts at Fort Sisseton, along with local support from state Sen. Curt Jones, made restoration of the state park possible.
• Janklow, who died in January 2012, served as governor from 1979 to 1987 and from 1995 to 2003. His plaque will be on display next to one honoring Jones.
• A ceremony is planned for 3 p.m. CDT on Saturday, June 8.
• The festival runs June 7-9 at the state park located southwest of Lake City.

Panel reviewing replacements for offensive names

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Board on Geographic Names will meet next week to review proposed new names for some Black Hills sites that contain the word "Negro."
• The names are considered offensive, and guidelines established by the U.S. Board of Geographic Names require that new names be found.
• The sites are near Wind Cave in Custer County, near Tinton in Lawrence County and near Medicine Mountain in Pennington County.
• The board will meet Tuesday in Pierre. People have until Saturday to submit their suggested replacement names.
• Suggestions can be sent to the South Dakota Board of Geographic Names, Department of Tribal Relations, 302 E. Dakota Ave., Pierre, S.D. 57501.

Oglala Sioux Tribe to open own grocery store

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The Oglala Sioux Tribe will open up a new grocery store on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation within days of the forced closure of the reservation's sole grocery store, the president of the tribe announced Tuesday.
• In an open letter to tribal members, Oglala Sioux tribal president Bryan Brewer said the tribe will open its own grocery store within 48 hours of the closing of Sioux
