The Life of Jerome Dale

• Jerome Dale, 88 of Groton and formerly of the Lily area died on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Groton.
• His funeral was held Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Pastor Elizabeth Johnson officiated with burial at Highland Lutheran Cemetery, Lily.

• Jerome Stanley Dale was born on Saturday, December 13 1924 to Hans and Frances (Swenson-Monson) Dale on the family farm near Lily, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church east of Lily. He attended country school near his home and graduated from Lily High School in 1943. In December 1944 he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II and was stationed in Saipan.
• After he was discharged he lived in Seattle, Washington for a couple of years and then returned to the family farm. In 1953, because of illness, he moved to Ft. Meade near Sturgis where he worked part-time for ranchers in the area. In the early 1960's he moved to Hot Springs and in 2004 moved to Rosewood Court in Groton. He entered Golden Living Center in Groton in December 2013.
• He was a member of Engebretson-Lien Post 156 American Legion in Lily. He was an avid reader and in his younger years enjoyed hunting.
• Jerome died on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Groton, South Dakota at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 4 days.
• Survivors include one sister, Harriet Spaniol of Webster, SD and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sibblings, Kenneth, Ben, and Lilan Monson, Judith Williams, Eleanor Kjosa and Robert Dale.
