South Dakota drug bust ends in arrests, dog killed

• CHANCELLOR, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities searching a home for drugs in the southeastern South Dakota town of Chancellor during a parole check arrested three people and shot and killed a dog.
• The Turner County Sheriff's Office says authorities were using a police dog to aid in the search Tuesday when one of the homeowner's three dogs got loose and attacked the police dog. It was shot and killed, and the other two dogs in the home were taken by animal control officers.
• Officials say that 62-year-old Gregory Alan Johnson, 30-year-old John James Johnson and 24-year-old Terra Jean Hopp face several charges, including maintain

ing a drug house, possession of drugs and paraphernalia and keeping a vicious animal.

DOC looking for missing inmate in S. Dakota

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities are searching for an inmate who left his work assignment at the Rapid City minimum-security facility.
• A release from the South Dakota Department of Corrections says 54-year-old Freddy Lawrence left the Rapid City Minimum Unit Wednesday morning. The department says security cameras show Lawrence left the facility on a bicycle just after 7 a.m.
• Lawrence is serving a five-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance out of Minnehaha County and another five-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance out of Pennington County.
