SD governor part of national health task force

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is part of a National Governors Association task force looking at ways states can improve the quality of health care and cut the cost of public health programs.
• The task force of a dozen governors will focus on state efforts to redesign health care delivery and payment systems. The National Governors Association says governors are developing innovations in the Medicaid program, but they need flexibility to implement changes in the state-federal program that provides health care to low-income people.
• The association says the task force will identify areas where federal legislation or regulatory changes are needed to reduce barriers to state initiatives.

Dairy economist to speak at South Dakota State

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- A University of Minnesota dairy economist will speak at South Dakota University on Wednesday about current federal dairy legislation.
• Marin Bozic will talk at the Alfred Dairy Science Hall from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The session is sponsored by the South Dakota Dairy Producers.
• Bozic has been part of the team evaluating the impact of the Dairy Security Act and the Goodlatte-Scott amendment proposals currently under review in the U.S. Congress. His remarks are intended to help dairy producers determine how to weigh in with their Congressional representatives.

Lt. Gov. Michels to speak at drug court graduation

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Lt. Gov. Matt Michels will be the guest speaker at a drug court graduation ceremony and open house in Pierre on Wednesday.
• The event is one of several being held in May to celebrate National Drug Court Month. Drug courts help people combat addiction, reduce prison populations and help participants remain in the workforce and with their families.
• There are five drug courts in South Dakota and three more are scheduled to open this fall.
• Other upcoming events include a drug court celebration in Sioux Falls on May 29 and a graduation ceremony in Rapid City on June 18. Chief Justice David Gilbertson
