Sioux Falls Sets New All-Time High Gasoline Price

• According to AAA's gas price-tracking Web site, AAAFuelGaugeReport.com, the average price in Sioux Falls for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is at its highest point ever, $4.181, breaking yesterday's price of $4.123, which was also a record high.
• South Dakota's statewide average continues to inch upward, now at $3.940, a four cent increase from yesterday and a forty cent increase from one week ago, $3.542. The state's all-time high of $4.091 was set on July 18, 2008.
•  "It appears at least part of the reason for these breathtaking price spikes is limited gas supplies caused by a couple of refineries in the upper Midwest going offline and the temporary closures of two large refineries in Chicago," said Marilyn Buskohl, spokeswoman for AAA South Dakota. "But these shortages have only impacted selected locations. For example, the Rapid City average price today is at $3.373. The silver lining is we expect the price spike to be short-lived."
• In the contiguous 48 states, six have gas price averages today above $4 per gallon: Minnesota, $4.275; North Dakota, $4.232; California, $4.056; Illinois, $4.053; Nebraska, $4.051; and Iowa, $4.019.
