Larson to be School and Public Lands commissioner

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he will appoint Vern Larson of Vivian as South Dakota's commissioner of school and public lands.
• Larson, a former state treasurer and state auditor, will replace Jarrod Johnson as head of the agency that administers state lands set aside to support schools and state institutions.

South Dakota has 2 $10,000 Powerball winners

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Powerball tickets sold in Sioux Falls and Yankton each won $10,000 in the latest Powerball drawing.
• South Dakota lottery officials say each ticket matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball in Saturday's drawing to win the game's third prize. The odds of doing so are one in about 649,000.
• Scott Hurowitz of Sioux Falls claimed his $10,000 prize on Monday.
• A ticket sold in the Florida city of Zephyrhills won the record $590.5 million jackpot Saturday. The jackpot goes back to $40 million for the next drawing, on Wednesday.
