Fjeldhem to be new fifth grade teacher

• Groton athletes will soon have the chance to participate in a summer lifting/acceleration program. The Groton School Board authorized the start up of the program during Monday's meeting.
• In the past, the athletic department has hired an outside party to do the summer program. The cost of having an outside consultant has become prohibitive for many students. This gave Scott Thorson the idea to develop a program that combined the best ideas from two universities into an extended program that would be affordable.
• The summer program will start on May 26 and run for eight weeks with sessions five days a week for $100. There will be three sessions, one for high school girls, high school boys and one for jr high athletes.
• Getting the roof repaired on the high school is one step closer as the board approved the proposal from HKG. The next step will be to gather bids on doing the job.
• The resignation of Laura Schuster as superintendent of schools, effective June 30, 2013 was approved, as was the hiring of Joe Schwan as her replacement. The resignation of Eric Hamiel as the K-8 school counselor was also accepted. The retirement of Bob Groeblinghoff as a school bus route driver was also approved. Groeblinghoff was a driver for 10 years.
