I-90 crash in southwestern SD kills 1, injures 6

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- One person was killed and six others injured in a two-vehicle crash that shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 in southwestern South Dakota for about an hour.
• The Highway Patrol says 46-year-old Kristian Sateren, of Sturgis, was pronounced dead at the scene between Rapid City and Black Hawk on Tuesday afternoon. He was one of two people thrown from a van transporting people with disabilities when it rolled into the median after trying to change lanes and colliding with a car.
• The van's driver and four other passengers suffered serious injuries and were taken to a Rapid City hospital. The car's driver also was taken to the hospital with what the patrol says were less-serious injuries.

SD prison inmates help with roadside cleanup

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- State prison inmates are helping the South Dakota Transportation Department with roadside cleanup projects across the state.
• State prison officials say inmates from the Yankton minimum-security unit began picking up trash along Interstate 29 on Monday. The inmate crew is expected to work about two weeks along I-29 from the South Dakota-Iowa border to mile marker 58.
• Inmates from the South Dakota Women's Prison in Pierre will work Wednesday to pick up trash along U.S. Highway 14 north of Pierre, the truck bypass east of the city and South Dakota Highway 34 for a few miles east of Pierre.
• Officials say motorists should drive with caution and be aware of the inmates working along the highways.

Inmate sentenced to death in prison guard killing
