Construction projects underway across South Dakota

• BURKE, S.D. (AP) -- Construction season is kicking in across the state.
• The South Dakota Department of Transportation says a contractor on Monday is beginning a $570,000 rehabilitation of bridges on Highway 44, Highway 47 and Highway 1806 in Gregory County. Traffic will be reduced to one 12-foot lane of traffic.
• Work is also beginning on projects in Eureka.
• A 3-million reconstruction of Highway 10 from the south junction of Highway 47 on the west to the north Highway 47 junction on the east side of Eureka will include grading, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, storm sewers, lighting and asphalt concrete surfacing.
• The city of Eureka is also beginning an $890,000 sewer improvement project that will replace more than 12,000 feet of sanitary sewer pipe and 33 manholes.

Safety courses offered to young SD farm workers

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota State University Extension is offering training courses for young South Dakotans who plan to work on farms this summer.
• SDSU instructor Nicholas Uilk (ULK) says certification in a Hazardous Occupation Safety Training in Agriculture course is required for all youth who are 14 and 15 and want to work on a farm other than their own family's farm.
• Farm operators who hire youth who do not have the training can face up to a $10,000 fine. Uilk also encourages youth who will be working on their families' farms to take the course.
• The training courses will be held May 28 in Brookings, May 29 in Aberdeen, May 30 in Winner and June 3 in Gettysburg.

SD Air Guard has new assistant adjutant general

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Air National Guard has a new assistant adjutant general.
• Brig. Gen. Matthew P. Jamison takes over the position from outgoing assistant
