SD panel seeks applicants for Investment Council

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Legislature is seeking applicants to fill a vacant seat on the State Investment Council.
• The council oversees the State Investment Office. It is responsible for investing state money and determining investment policies.
• People who are trained in investment and finance but who are not engaged in the sale of marketable or public securities to the state can apply for the appointment.
• South Dakota law requires that no more than four of the appointed members of the Investment Council can be from the same political party. This year's appointment can be of any political party.
• The appointment will be made by the Legislature's Executive Board, which handles management issues for the Legislature. Applications can be obtained from the Legislative Research Council, and the application deadline is May 24.

De Smet to be SD's Capital for a Day on Friday

• DE SMET, S.D. (AP) -- De Smet will be South Dakota's Capital for a Day on Friday.
• Activities for the day include a Main Street walk, meetings around town, a coffee hour with Gov. Dennis Daugaard and tours.
• A roundtable discussion about how to keep the next generation in South Dakota will take place at the De Smet High School gymnasium from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend.
• A coffee and constituent hour will be held in the gym from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Residents will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Gov. Daugaard.
• The day will conclude with two ribbon-cutting ceremonies and tours of Sheyenne Dakota and American Engineered Products.

Guard provides communications training in Suriname

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Three South Dakota National Guard Soldiers were in the Republic of Suriname recently to train Surinamese Special Forces soldiers on the Harris radio system.
