Gibbs earns Groton P.E.O. Sisterhood Scholarship

• The academic P. E.O. Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year, was presented to Abby Cheryl Gibbs, a senior at Groton High School.  This scholarship is in loving memory of Sheila Garness, who was a nearly a 50 year member of P. E. O.
• Abby is the daughter of Steve and Ann Gibbs and plans to attend Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls and major in the field of surgical technology and receive an associate's  degree.  She would like to in time receive a teaching degree and a masters.
• The P. E. O. Scholarship is a $500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, community service, academics, and potential for future success.  The program is open to young women who are citizens of the U. S. and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application.
• The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded January 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes increased educational opportunities for women.  There are approximately 6,000 local chapters in the United States and Canada with more than 350,000 initiated members.  The P.E.O. Sisterhood own Cottey College for women, a two year liberal arts college, with the recent addition of selected four-year degrees.  Cottey College is located in Nevada, Missouri.

Results from Ipswich Relays

• Several Groton athletes placed at the Ipswich Relays held Saturday. Nikolai Pyatt took second in the 200m dash with a time of 23.50 and he took sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.63.
• The girls 800m Relay team of Kurtz, Doeden, Schaller and Sippel tookt heird with a time of 1:54.87.
• Jasmine Schaller placed fourth in the 3200m run with a time of 13:17.63.
• Placing sixth were Cheyenne Scahller in the 300m hurdles with a time of 52.59; the girls 1600m relay team ran a time of 4:35.26; Erica Schuster had a distance of 100-2 in the discus; Camille Sippel had a height of 4-5 in the high jump; and Dalton Locke had a distance of 42-5.5 in the shot put.
• Kylie Hawkins placed seventh in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.49.
• Placing eight were the girls medley relay team of Kurtz, Kokales, Doeden and Sippel with a time of 4:57.62 and the boys 400m relay team of Johnson, Larson, Doeden and Pyatt with a time of 47.48.
