Black Hills Film Festival set for this week

• HILL CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Film enthusiasts will have a chance to see South Dakota-produced films and films shot on location in South Dakota this week during the annual Black Hills Film Festival.
• It's the fourth year for the event that features independent films. It runs Wednesday through Sunday.
• Special guests at this year's event include actor Tatanka Means, whose film "Tiger Eyes" is among the films being shown at the festival. Others attending the festival include director Lawrence Blume, who wrote "Tiger Eyes; casting director Rene Haynes; director Andres Torres-Vives and stunt actor Angelique Midthunder.

SDSU assistant football coach Jay Bubak resigns

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota State University assistant football coach Jay Bubak is resigning and will pursue other professional opportunities outside of coaching.
• SDSU head coach John Stiegelmeier says Bubak's resignation is a major loss to the coaching staff. He says Bubak did a great job in coaching, recruiting and mentoring.
• Bubak has been linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator.
• He joined the Jackrabbit football program in 2005.'

SD lawmakers approve new study of school funding

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- After hearing repeated requests from schools for more money, South Dakota lawmakers have decided to take another look at the state system for funding public school districts.
• The Legislature's Executive Board voted unanimously last week to appoint a study committee that will investigate the funding formula and revenue sources used to finance the schools. The study panel will meet during the summer and fall to come up with recommendations to be submitted to the 2014 Legislature in January.
• "I think a lot of it is we keep hearing year after year after year that education funding isn't enough in this state. So now let's come up with some ideas," said Sen.
