NTSB: Pilot error likely cause of 2011 SD crash

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Federal investigators have concluded that pilot error likely was the cause of a December 2011 plane crash near the Sioux Falls airport that killed four people.
• A National Transportation Safety Board report says 54-year-old charter pilot Brian Blake failed to follow emergency guidelines when one of the engines on the twin-engine Cessna 421C apparently caught fire just after takeoff from Joe Foss field.
• The Dec. 9, 2011, crash killed Blake, Kevin Anderson and Daniel Swets of Sioux Falls, and Joshua Lambrecht of Brandon. The three passengers were headed to a robotics competition in Rapid City.

Court administrator named in SD 3rd Circuit

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A Brookings man has been appointed court administrator for a South Dakota judicial circuit that includes 14 counties in eastern South Dakota.
• Circuit Judge Tim D. Tucker, presiding judge for the 3rd Judicial Circuit, says Joel Torgrude will be the circuit's new administrator.
• Torgrude has worked as a court services officer for eight years, most recently for five years in Brookings.
• The 3rd Judicial Circuit includes Beadle, Brookings, Clark, Codington, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Hand, Jerauld, Kingsbury, Lake, Miner, Moody and Sanborn counties.

Company helping to turn downed branches into fuel

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Sioux Falls wood recycling company is helping to turn streets of downed trees into energy.
• KSFY television reports (http://bit.ly/12Jp5kn) that since the April 9 ice storm, trucks continued to add fallen branches and tree limbs to Mueller Pallets' recycling pile, which is up to about 400 tons.
• Mueller's main client is the Poet plant in Chancellor, which uses the energy from burning these wood chips to produce ethanol.
• Mueller Pallets usually deals with recycled wood pallets and tree waste, but
