SD doctor honored for childhood immunizations
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A Sioux Falls doctor has been recognized for his work in support of childhood immunizations in South Dakota.
• The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention honored Dr. Wendell Hoffman with a Childhood Immunization Champion award.
• State Health Secretary Doneen Hollingsworth says Hoffman has become the leading authority on immunization in South Dakota during his 27-year medical career. She says Hoffman is the South Dakota State Medical Association's spokesman on childhood immunizations and has testified before the Legislature about the importance of maintaining state laws on immunization.
• Hoffman is patient safety officer for Sanford Health.

Poet restarts production at Missouri plant
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Poet says it has restarted production at its ethanol plant in Macon, Mo., and has added corn oil production to its product mix.
• The 45 million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant suspended operations in February, primarily due to a lack of available corn from last year's drought.
• The Sioux Falls-based company during the downtime made about $14 million in upgrades, including adding a more efficient evaporator, a new administration building and scale house and a new control system.
• Work continues on installation of BPX technology, a no-cook process that reduces heat and energy use.
• Poet chief executive Jeff Lautt says the upgrades will position the plant well for the future.

More rain expected for swollen Midwest rivers

• PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) -- More rain on Tuesday was the last thing flood fighters across the Midwest wanted to see, adding more water to swollen rivers now expected to remain high into next month.
• Floodwaters were rising to record levels along the Illinois River in central Illinois. (Continued on page 18)
