Today in Weather History

1968: A late season snow storm affected most of South Dakota, with the heaviest snowfall measuring 18 in. at Eagle Butte. In addition, localized icing damaged utility lines, 40mph winds caused localized blizzard conditions, and some calf losses were reported.

2001: Heavy snow of 6 to 9 inches fell across parts of central and northeast South Dakota during the morning hours. The heavy snow caused many roads to become slushy and difficult to travel. The heavy snow also downed some tree branches. Some snowfall amounts included, 6 inches at Ferney, Miller, and Webster; 7 inches at Agar, Mellette, and Twin Brooks; 8 inches at Gettysburg, and 9 inches at Faulkton.

1932: In Elgin, Manitoba 52 wild geese were struck by lighting in flight and killed.

1985: Toronto, Canada hit 86 degrees, making it not only the warmest day of the month, but also the warmest day of the entire year. Unfortunately the Blue Jays lost their home game to the Kansas City Royals 2-0.
