Speech ~ Mary Hempel
Vacation Activities for Language Development   By Linda G. Richman, M.S.
Outdoor Activities:
• What animal am I?
•
Here's a language game to play in your own yard.  Take turns thinking of an animal and acting out it's actions. Try to guess the animals acted out.  A monkey could be acted out as reaching up into an imaginary tree, picking a banana and then peeling it.  Describe what you're doing as you do it:  "Now I'm reaching for a banana in a tree."  See how many different animals you and your child can act out and describe.
Hide and Seek
•
Take turns hiding a small ball or other object in your yard.  The person who does the hiding gives directions to the others to find the ball:  "Go to the edge of the house and turn left. Look in front of the bike."  Whoever finds the object first gets to hide it next time.

GRASP/OST - Rose Long
GRASP will again be going all summer long.  Hours for the summer will be from 7 AM - 6 PM Monday through Friday.  This year we will be having time each day that focuses on academic enrichment activities.  Students will participate in various age appropriate activities designed to be fun, yet reinforcing the core skills of reading and math to help keep brains sharp during the summer months.  Students will be using computers and academic enrichment software, hands-on activities and games to stimulate thinking.  Each week there will be a guest teacher who comes in to work with students.  We have been doing this for the last couple of years and this is always a highlight of the week as our guest teachers are very creative and always have fun and exciting activities for the kids.  GRASP students will be going to the
